Installation & Validation
In this article we'll help you get up and running quickly by explaining how to download, install, and setup Olle for macOS.
Pre-Installation
Make sure to read the conditions for use (opens new window) on the official site. Olle is not free. However, you may evaluate it without a license.
Download links for all supported platforms can be found on the Download page.
The process of installing Olle is different for each platform.
1. Installation
Head over to the Download page and grab the latest version of Olle. This will install a .dmg
file on your desktop. At the time of writing this article I am using version 1.3.3 (B9000)
.
Double-click on the Olle-[version].dmg
file.
Once you've accepted the terms of service, Olle will become installable via your machine.
Drag the Olle app icon into the Application folder on the right to install it on your machine.
Now click on the search bar icon in the menubar, located on the top right of your computer screen. Search for the Olle app. An alert will appear informing you that Olle is being downloaded from the website.
Note: Apple has verified this software and thus you should see the notice:
[Web Browser] downloaded this file today [time]. Apple checked it for malicous software and none was detected
Click on the open button to start the application.
Upon first opening the application an update alert will appear. Simply press ok to continue.
Now Olle should be installed via the menubar. Click on the Olle Icon and select Activate License
. Enter the license key you've received via email.
Once your license is activated the menu options should become enabled. Now select the settings menu option. In order to utilize Olle, you will need to grab your own openAI api key. I will assume you already have your own key, but if not, please follow our guide here for setting up your very own API key.
Note: Normal ChatGPT and the API version are not the same
Once the settings menu is open, navigate to the OpenAI tab. Enter your openAI API key into the text field and select save.
Note: Your API key should begin with sk-*
Now that you've successfully added your own API key, we will need to do one additional step before you can begin use Olle.
2. Adding Accessibility Permissions
In order to allow Olle to work properly on macOS, you will need to grant the application accessibility permissions
. There are 2 ways to allow permission access.
1. Allow apple to initiate permissions
Navigate to a window or application that accepts input. I will use the Notes app for demonstration. Press CTRL + V
to activate the Olle toolbar. Now let's enter a simple command. Say "Hello" and press the
arrow in the bottom-right corner of the popup dialog. An alert should appear when you attempt to use Olle for the first time. If it does not appear, do not worry as you can manually add it. See the section below.
2. Manually add app permissions
Select the Apple Icon in the top left corner > System Preferences.
Now select the Security & Privacy tab and then navigate to the Accessibility menu option. On the right of the tab you will notice a plus icon. Click the plus Icon.
A file browser window will appear allowing you to select an application to gain Accessibility permissions. Select the Application tab in the file browser and look for the Olle app icon. Once you've found the Olle app icon, select the ok to give Olle accessibility permissions.
3. Testing Olle everywhere*
Now let's test Olle to see if it is working as expected. Navigate to a window or application that accepts input. I will use the Notes app for demonstration. Press CTRL + V to activate the Olle toolbar. Now let's enter a simple command. Say "Hello" and press the arrow in the bottom-right corner of the popup dialog.
