How to use AI to improve your book marketing

Excuse the Spongebob reference, but unless you’re like Patrick Star and live under a rock, you’ve likely heard of different AI chatbots, like ChatGPT, and how they are changing the way people work.

There has been a lot of talk recently about AI in publishing, some of it positive, some of it negative, but today I want to highlight some of the positive ways you can use AI as an author to help promote your book.

One of the biggest benefits overall is that AI can save you time–and I know from conversations with many authors that time is one of the biggest reasons why marketing never happens.

1. Writing copy/content

One way authors can utilize AI is by having it write out content for social media, email, advertising, video scripts etc.

This can be a huge timesaver for authors! And when you provide AI programs with enough material they can churn out pretty decent content for you.

The one thing I caution authors on is to give all of the content a good read through and make minor adjustments. Why? Because sometimes AI-written content lacks humanity and authenticity that is needed to really connect with readers. As long as you’re adding in your own personality and flavor, let AI do 90-95% of the work for you.

2. Answering your questions

If you’re stumped about a marketing strategy, why not ask ChatGPT for some help? In a way, it’s like a version of Google that can “talk” back to you.

Not sure about the best times to post on social media? Why not ask? Curious about different targeting strategies for an advertising platform? Just ask! Not sure how to format your email newsletter? Ask away!

Programs like ChatGPT can provide you with some valuable tips, so instead of using inexperience as an excuse to not do something, utilize AI.

3. Ask for ideas

If you’re stumped about what to post on social media, or what to write for your blog, asking AI for help is a great way to get fresh ideas.

This not only saves you time, but it can give you a fresh perspective on the type of content that is relevant to your audience.
